Stuart Davis

This blog is about Stuart Davis, an artist who was born on December 7, 1892.
Stuart Davis was an early American modernist painter who was known for his jazzy style. His paintings were very colorful and bold. He was born in Philadelphia. His father worked as the art editor of the Philadelphia Press while his mother worked as a painter. Davis studied painting, and art under Robert Henri, the leader of the early modern art group the Eight; he was one of the youngest painters to exhibit in the controversial Armory Show of 1913. He is most famous for his abstract still lives and landscapes. He is considered a proto-Pop artist for his use of contemporary subject matter such as cigarette packages, spark plug advertisements, and the contemporary American landscape. He died, due to his Alcoholism causing him a stroke, on June 24, 1964.

  2. I since this artist sounds neat, but I wonder why you chose him... his style isn't even close to what you are in to.

  4. Stuart Davis seems like a really cool artist! I love the piece you posted of his work! It reminds me a lot of Hana's style actually. I agree with Hana that his color choices work really well together and the shapes are all very interesting and unique.
